Have you been charged with Forgery in Oregon? There are two different levels of forgery that you could find yourself being charged with in Oregon:
- Forgery in the 2nd Degree, which is a Class A misdemeanor
- Forgery in the 1st Degree, which is a Class C felony.
What constitutes Forgery in the 2nd Degree: When you, with the intent to financially injure or defraud another:
- Falsely makes, completes, or alters a written instrument such as a check; or
- You “utter”1 a written instrument, such as a check, which you know is forged.
What constitutes Forgery in the 1st Degree: You are accused of actions in 2nd Degree; and
- The forged document is claiming to have been issued by the government;
- The forged document is part of an issue of stock, bonds, or other interests or a claim against another person’s property;
- The forged document is a deed, will, codicil, contract or assignment;
- The forged document is a check, credit card, or combination transaction of $1,000 or more;
- The forged document is a public record; or
- You have falsely made or altered at least 15 sales receipts or universal product codes or other retail pricing labels.
